Chapters 3, 9, 10. reflection

 

After reading the chapters and listening to the presentations that we made in class, I have learned a lot about the communication, and everything involved with it. In the first presentation I learned how the communication how the communication is related with culture and how important is to understand cultures in order to communicate better and how the cultures can be modified through communication. Things like the race, the ethnicity and the native language have a big impact in how we communicate with others. I leaned about the influence of sex and gender in the communication and how men and women communicate different. People also communicate different based on their religion and their social status. I learned ho people from different generations behaves different based on the events that happened during their generation. Communication can also be affected based on the type of you culture. If the culture is individualistic, there would be less communications as this culture as this culture is characterized for how people act trying to achieve their own personal goal. If the culture is collectivistic, it would be exactly the opposite. In low-context cultures, people tend to give a lot of explanations to gets to the point of what do they want to say and in high-context cultures, the people go straight to the point. In the second presentation I learned about the communication in the different groups that we have in our daily basis, such as the family, in which the communication tends to make you feel comfortable and identified or social groups, that are people that, for some reasons, are close to you and make you feel like a family. I learned about all the values of a healthy group and how groups are formed and the process of development to create a group, including the different conflicts that a group can faced. The third presentation taught us the group leadership, with the leadership being a process were an individual guides the group to achieve a goal, they explain the different types of leaders and the roles that the people tend to have in a group, how the leaders have to deal and take acre of every person in the group and manage everything perfectly so the group can be successful. With the presentations I have learn a lot of new stuff. I did not know that the process of communications was that complex and I realized that there were a lot of things that I used to ignore, but also that are important in the process of communication. I truly enjoy learning all these things because, something that I used to see really simple, is now a whole new universe

    Very good reflection! I agree that the simple communication things that we don't think are very important, really can be.

  Reflection on Chapters 3,9, and 10 By: Amanda Caballero Through watching all the presentations, I've learned a lot of information to apply to my real everyday life. These chapters go inadept on topics like Intercultural Communication, Communicating in Groups and Group Leadership and Problem Solving. disabilities reflection by Francisco Alcantara

with the presentations on disabilities, just like the first presentations that we did, I have learned a lot of new stuff. learning about the disabilities, their history, the different agencies that help people with disabilities and watching those wonderful interviews has been a great experience. For me, the most interesting disabilities, and the ones that I mostly learn about were: the deafness, which has an interesting background as deaf people in the past used to be persecuted by religious people because they couldn’t hear the word of god.
