Throughout the presentations, I have learned a lot, so here is what I learned. The dominant culture is referred to as the learned system of norms that the majority group of empowered people holds in a society. I knew that in the 1960s, Immigrants changed their names to sound more "American." They were also expected to learn English faster than any other language. A health group is characterized by ethical goals, independence, cohesiveness, productive norms, accountability, and synergy. I learned that culture could be a cause of conflict. The culture forms the way we speak our mannerisms, the words we use, and more, and that can lead to conflict; it also shows one's identity. There are two types of norms: individualism norms and the other is collectivism norms. In the individualism norm, you are the center focus, but people around you are the center focus in collectivism. They know if a person's collective norm or an individualism norm can help the way you choose your words and justify your actions in general. We have developed emoticons and acronyms, for example, "LOL" and emojis, etc. People can become victims of sarcasm based on the way a joke is told in text rather than in person. Dominant American culture slowly began to respect and honor the diversity of cultures. We use the term bicultural to those who acknowledge the various aspects of two distinct cultures. Effective communication can be based on acronyms and emoticons because it can help the way you communicate with people. Synergetic means the multiplying force of a group working together that results in a combined effort more significant than any part. A winner group has synergetic energy attached to it. It is about not being an individual and thinking about the person to your left or right. A healthy group can also develop collective intelligence and dynamic energy that would positively impact the group. There are different types of task roles. They help develop the individual, they help achieve the task, and they help build the team. The task leadership roles are givers, seekers, and analyzers. The initiator defines the problem and finds the whole idea of the problem and the entire project. They also suggest ideas and solutions as to solving the problem. There is also an elaborator that provides examples and background based on experience to help the group out. There is also a coordinator who summarizes everything that happens. There are different types of maintenance roles: supporters, interpreters, harmonizers, meditators, and tension relievers. Decision-making is one of the single most important aspects of being able to solve an issue at hand, and without it, the problem persists and does not get solved. An oral brief and an oral report are different because a verbal brief summarizes a written brief delivered as a formal presentation by one group. An oral report provides more details to a group solving process generally ranged from 30-60 minutes. This is a summary of what I have learned through chapters 3,9,10.
Very nice summary (reflection) of the chapters. Nice work!
